SILICONE Or VMQ
Silicone is a polymer that is formed by a chemical combination between inorganic and organic bonds. Its name comes from silicon, which is its main component, it is in fact a derivative of rock, quartz or sand. As a consequence of its rigid chemical structure, technical and aesthetic results are obtained, which can hardly be obtained with other similar products.
Silicone has spread in an almost unprecedented way because it has unique characteristics and an exclusive and wide field of application that no other material has reached. Its extraordinary resistance against aging, climatic conditions, radiation, ozone, temperature and chemicals make it an essential material. Due to their physiological quality, they also play a significant role in the manufacture and elaboration of food or pharmaceutical products, in addition to the diverse applications for medical technology.
It has a great resistance to any type of use, for its resistance to compression, deformation and its microbial inactivity. It is not contaminant and is an optimal option for its application in sanitary and food elements. Many of the JV Group silicone products are physiologically harmless and their smell and taste is neutral. They are adapted, specially, for use with food and medicinal or pharmaceutical products.
Silicone is flexible and is also soft to the touch, it does not stain or wear, even has a high resistance to weathering for long periods of time, resists the ultraviolet rays of the sun and moisture, (since it is highly repellent of water), with an extremely low volatility, which prevents its deterioration on the materials that come in contact with it.
For these items to be used in sensitive sectors, Arcade, Industrias JV and Elastómeros JV facilitate a subsequent thermal treatment called post-curing, in our hot air recirculation furnaces, which confer the compliance with the corresponding regulations of the German entity BfR and the American FDA regarding food compliance as well as the WRAS, KTW and ACS requirements for contact with drinking water.
For the medical-pharmaceutical field, in addition, it complies with the current provisions of ISO 10993, USP Class VI and E.P. 3.1.9. for this use. It should be noted, in turn, that JV silicones have the possibility to repeatedly perform a steam sterilization at temperatures between 20°C and 140°C in almost all manufactured qualities.
The main mechanical properties include a tensile strength of 70 kg/cm2 and an average elongation of 400%, but unlike other similar materials, the silicone maintains these mechanical properties even after being exposed to extreme temperatures. Silicone is highly resistant between temperatures from -60ºC to 250 ° C.
Silicone from Arcade, Industrias JV and Elastómeros JV can be manufactured in different colors according to RAL or PANTONE charts, luminescent, fluorescent and, also, metallic.
Among the excellent properties of silicone, we find ideal electrical properties because it has elasticity, lasting flexibility, malleability and insulation and can maintain its dielectric properties even when exposed to extreme temperatures where other types of materials would not endure.
As far as chemical resistance is concerned, silicone resists some acids, ammonia, alcohol and chemical oxidants. In fact, the silicone undergoes swelling against non-polar solvents such as benzene or toluene, and returns to its original form once the solvent evaporates. In addition, it has anti-foaming properties.
Our silicone (VMQ) standards support a temperature that ranges from -50ºC to 200ºC, but we have other special bases that can withstand -90ºC (PVMQ) and even 315ºC (THT). In addition, at JV, we have optimal specific formulations for conductivity as well as antistatic, silicones suitable for contact with food complying with the FDA (CFR21 section 177.2600), BgVV (recommendation XV), medical grade silicone being able to comply with the USP class VI, standard sponge silicone, high-temperature spongy silicone as well as spongy silicone suitable for contact with food.
By having very particular physical and chemical properties, silicone becomes a very versatile material and, therefore, has a widespread use in the market. It also represents an adaptable and economical solution for the manufacture of high quality products and can be used as a single production material or be applied to other materials as it also has high adhesion properties and is inert (does not react with most materials).
